Life Institute asks Department to consider Life issues

The Life Institute has submitted a list of Life issues to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade regarding Ireland's Fourth Periodic Report under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights - the Covenant is a United Nations document to which Ireland is subscribed.

The Life Institute notes that the Department will hold a formal consultation meeting with civil society at a later date, and will inviting written submissions from interested parties at that stage, which will be reflected in the Report. We ask the Department then to include these issues for consideration.

  • Strengthening Ireland's ban on abortion
  • Ensuring that the sovereignty of the Irish people is respected in relation to our human rights laws
  • Ensuring legal protection for the human embryo outside of the womb
  • The treatment of human embryos in Irish fertility clinics
  • The practise of Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis and other forms of embryo screening
  • Euthanasia
  • Assisted Suicide
  • The treatment of pre-mature babies in Irish hospitals
  • Defending the right to life of people with disabilities
