The US-based Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR), an ally of Planned Parenthood, is set to take another case against Ireland at the United Nations, arguing that we need a more liberal abortion law.
This case follows the CRR's involvement in the ABC case recently taken to the European Court, which the government used to justify legalising abortion in Ireland. CRR, who are working with abortion campaigners in Ireland, are basing their case on attacking Ireland's protection of unborn children who have a serious or potentially fatal abnormality. According to the Irish Examiner CRR will argue that a ban on abortion for fatal anomalies is “cruel, inhumane, and degrading”.

Niamh Uí Bhriain of the Life Institute said that "the premise of their argument seems to be that abortion is merciful where a baby has a serious or terminal disorder. This is untrue; abortion is never merciful and we can do better for mothers and babies by providing services such as perinatal hospice for families who are faced with these difficult diagnoses."
"So much misinformation is put about by the media on this issue: not least that they fail to inform parents that, even with the most severe conditions, children often live for hours, days and even months after birth, and that perinatal hospice can help families make the most from that time.
The Life Institute spokeswoman also slammed unwanted foreign interference in Irish affairs and the media's decision to ignore that interference.
"US-based abortion campaigners are interfering, yet again, in our laws, yet there is total silence on that aspect of the case from the Irish media. The hypocrisy is shocking, yet not surprising," she said.
