Scotland is now facing a significant abortion battle with both pro-life and pro-abortion sides facing each other down with opposing proposals on the life issues.
There has been a proposal put forward by several pro-life MP’s to transfer authority of abortion laws to the Scottish Parliament, allowing them to legislate abortion laws without the interference of the rest of the United Kingdom. Pro-abortion campaigners in the UK have strongly objected to this proposed amendment.

MP’s supporting the amendment to the Scotland Bill claim that the passage of this amendment would give Scotland similar powers over abortion, euthanasia, and other issues currently held by Northern Ireland.
John Pugh MP, who supports the amendment, stated, “I think we acknowledge that a Scottish life is worth no less than any other life, but regulating how and when life is terminated in Scotland can justifiably be done in my view in the Scottish parliament by a Scottish authority and is done throughout Europe differently by all nations.”
Pro-abortion activists are also currently attempting to change the abortion status quo in Scotland, though in this case for the worse. Activists are pushing for easier access to late term abortion in Scotaldn, where abortion is currently legal until 24 weeks. They claim that Scotland’s current laws force women seeking abortion late in pregnancy to travel to England to have the procedure performed.
It is to be hoped that Scotland will move away from the pro-abortion influence of the rest of the UK and make decisions will benefit their society’s most vulnerable members.
