Some 15,000 people have already signed a petition urging the President of the Belgium Commission of Justice and the President of the Social Affairs Committee to reject a proposed Bill which seeks to legalise euthanasia for children.
"Soon the Belgian Parliament will vote on a bill that will extend the country's euthanasia law to children. If this bill is enacted into law, a 12 year old child can decide on life or death without the consent of his or her parent(s). The law gives the physician certain authority to ask the State to assume the role of the parents," say the petition organisers.

"No government body should have the authority to take the place of the parents to decide if a child lives or dies!," they continue.
Belgian officials are moving quickly and not allowing for public input, such as a democratic vote. We cannot remain silent and must call on the Belgian Parliament to not move forward on this legislation. We cannot condone a culture of death.
Violators abuse the current Belgian law and many abusers are never punished ( euthanasia of minors, mentally handicapped, prisoners for psychological reasons, without the consent the person euthanized , etc… ).
We call on the politicians to abandon these proposed laws and work on new laws that are in favor of life, long term care and vulnerable people in our society.
